OUR STORY

5th Generation Family-Owned Business

In the small town of Sallent near Barcelona, Spain, a visionary and hard-working man named Jaime Bonifasi Obradors was born in 1859. From a young age, he had big dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. After marrying Isabel Saenz Bernard, Jaime worked as a building master for a successful businessman and inventor, Josep Guardiola, in Barcelona.

Jaime's skills caught Guardiola's attention, and he was offered a job in Guatemala to oversee the construction of bridges on a farm called Chocolá. Without hesitation, Jaime and Isabel embarked on a journey to Guatemala, settling on the Chocolá farm. As Jaime built bridges, Isabel worked as a dressmaker and later opened her store.

Their hard work paid off, and they eventually bought land in Santo Tomas Perdido, now Santo Tomas La Union, where they started growing coffee. They established two farms, San Jaime and Santa Isabel, as a tribute to their legacy.

Tragedy struck when Jaime unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack during a trip to Quetzaltenango. Isabel left alone with their five children, took charge of the coffee farms and managed to keep them thriving.

Jaime Bonifasi Saenz, their eldest son, joined his mother working on the farms. Isabel insisted that he find a Spanish bride, leading him to Barcelona, where he fell in love with Conchita Prat Sabate. They returned to Guatemala and continued their work on the farm, raising six children.

Jaime Bonifasi Saenz followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a successful coffee farmer and a respected figure in the community. Sadly, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 50. His son, Jaime Bonifasi Prat, currently studying in Barcelona, was called back to support his father during his illness.

Determined to carry on the family legacy, Jaime Bonifasi Prat married Rosalito Giron Esposito and had four children. After his father's passing, he worked tirelessly on the farm, eventually becoming Guatemala's largest single coffee producer.

Jaime Bonifasi Prat was known for his kind heart and generosity. He donated land for schools, stadiums, and community projects,  always willing to help those in need.

At the age of 85, Jaime Bonifasi Prat succumbed to pneumonia, leaving his eldest son, Jaime Javier Bonifasi Giron, to continue the family's coffee operations with the support of the entire family. The Bonifasi family's story is one of resilience, hard work, and a commitment to preserving their coffee legacy for generations to come.
